February has came. I am in front of Vox.com at 04.43 (UTC+7).
Nothing comes more imaginative than "the month of love" – labelled as "valentine" – related to this month. Moreover in a site like Vox, where many of users get intense to others by various degree of who-can-read-my-entries. Vox's design will be busy with love and hearts, pink and pastel colors.
I read on one baliho in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia: a motorcycle store offers a special promo for any women buyers during February.
Continuing previous posting about blogging expense, here is in detail...
First, I have been hosting all my web activities (blogs, wikis, and one mail archive website) in DreamHost. They offer more than all I need and USD 7,95/month fits my budget. I even share some resources with some of my friends. So, hosting is safe for two years (also means: I am pushed by deadline two months before ended!).
Second: connection. This is a must, especially if you step into serious or [semi-]professional blogging. After working hours blogging must be accomodated with personal connection. Moreover, you can start planning yourself living with blogging using that kind of Internet connection. I choose Telkom Speedy, based on PT Telkom, Indonesian government owned telecoms company. Price is moderate: enough for providing common-user's need but still more expensive compared to other countries. In Rupiah, they offer three month 50% discount: IDR 150.000/month and free registration. Apart from monthly bill, I must start shopping ADSL modem. I took D-Link, featuring wireless connection for IDR 753.000.
After three months, I will be billed to normal rate, IDR 300.000/month for 384 kbps and 750 MB usage.
Any other expenses? Oh yes: Flickr Pro! USD 24/year, I think it is very valuable since I was addicted. But Flickr Pro is not necessary for everyone. You can totally reject this idea or simply approve it without noise.
I am invited by Rendy Maulana to come and join Blog Fun Day that will be held tomorrow, 2 Dec., in Sasana Budaya Ganesa, Bandung, Indonesia. Rendy and his start up hosting company, Qwords, joins together with Telkom Speedy, a major ISP for cable connection, and other two sponsors, arrange two days hosting and Internet connection promotion to bloggers around Bandung.
In a sequence after Rendy and Kuncoro, I would like to talk about blog, its atmosphere, and various motivations for audience to join with. I hope it will be done in fun situation and each talks to others.
The promotion itself was done by Rendy in some manners: one of my Yahoo! 360°'s friends greets me for this event. Perhaps she read Rendy's Yahoo! Messenger's status or his blog entry.
See you tomorrow.
How much money do you spend for blogging lifestyle?
To most of us in Indonesia, it can be "more significant": Internet connection is still expensive in most locations and we have to compensate this hobby using various tricks. Some authors suggested to use Internet connection in office along break time (in Bahasa Indonesia). So, you cut your lunch time about fiveteen to thirty minutes for writing blog. With a hope that blogging is allowed in your office, because some friends have reported that their companies had blocked some blog-oriented sites, following previous similiar rules to mailing list.
Home dial up connection is another alternative. Even it is looked "cheap" for some reasons (I just need Internet connection for short time in a month), maximally we have only 64 kbps. With a hope: less or never disconnect. Actually, this is not real cheap connection: its bytes/rupiahs is high enough. Watch your operating system's dial up panel hour-meter usage.
How about cable connection or ADSL? Not all area has been covered, first. Even in a capital of province. Jakarta is the only exception city to this kind of connection. The price itself is reasonable with a note: when you really need full time connection.
Blogging starts from Internet connection, no matter additional expenses you have to spend later, e.g. domain name or web hosting. That's next discussion.
It is actually a little bit irony considering that one of "well known" opponent to blogging in Indonesia is really a host of tv program called E-Lifestyle. With repetitious rhetorical question about credibility shooting anonymous author, blogger was once at a time claimed having a content from irresponsible author and was even judged for being expressed from "immoral sources".
Oh yeah, forget citation's source or logical conclusion was taken. It is all merely about lifestyle -- "thus speak Zaratustra mantra..."
Hollywood happy ending has been shown: in his last performance, in a full of smile forgetting all controversial statements, conflict has been ended.
